Galesburg resurrecting monthly Community Blue-Ribbon Award

The City of Galesburg will be recognizing citizens who help make positive changes to their community. The program has been inactive in recent years and Galesburg on Track reached out to the city to help breathe new life into the community initiative that highlights citizen efforts to reflect a positive town image. The Blue-Ribbon Award will focus on improvements made to residential properties within the city limits. These improvements can be functional or Aesthetic in nature and should promote a positive overall image of the neighborhood. That includes updates to structures, landscaping, and general cleanup of the property. Galesburg Council talks about dissolving TIF District 1

Galesburg City Council had a discussion on dissolving TIF District 1 on Monday, November 1st. The District encompasses a good portion of downtown, including East Main from Kellogg St. to Cherry St., as well as down Seminary St. towards the Discovery Depot. Community Development Director Steve Gugliotta says most of the properties in the TIF aren't considered dilapidated anymore. He adds that there are some properties in the district that could still meet requirements and the city would likely try to expand the boundaries of TIF 4 to encompass these qualifying properties. TIF Districts can be created for 23 years, and if successful in petitioning the General Assembly that can be extended for another 12 years. If the TIF District is dissolved the marginal property tax that's been paid over the properties 1985 levels would go to general city revenue instead of into the TIF fund. Gugliotta selected as Director of Community Development

Steve Gugliotta has taken over the role of Director of Community Development for the City of Galesburg. The announcement came yesterday from the city. He'd been filling the position on an interim basis since Ryan Berger's resignation in April of this year. Gugliotta has been with the city for 23 years, starting as a General Inspector in 1998 before being promoted to Associate Planner in 2005 and then Planning Manager in 2017. "Steve has been an integral leader in the Community Development Department, as well as a vital member of the City of Galesburg leadership," said Todd Thompson, City Manager. "He has brought concrete knowledge and expertise to the table, as well as dedication to a job well done, making him an ideal candidate to fill this position." In his time with the city, he's administered the city's Tax Increment Financing program, which has assisted over 25 projects that have invested $40M into the redevelopment of existing buildings. In
