As Pennsylvania state legislators were sworn into office on Tuesday, there were a couple new faces representing the Lehigh Valley. WDIY’s Sarit Laschinsky has more.

Three Lehigh County residents — Jarrett Coleman, Nick Miller and Josh Siegel — took oaths of office as first-time Pa. state lawmakers amid fanfare and before loved ones in the Capitol in Harrisburg on Tuesday.

Berks County Democratic Rep. Mark Rozzi was voted in as Speaker of the House in the state Capitol on Tuesday as a closely divided chamber chose to back someone for the top job who had a strong history of support in both parties.

With 69 of 80 precincts reporting early Wednesday, Eichorn earned 24,673 votes (63.47%) to Samuelson’s 14,180 (36.48%).

While Samuelson will have “DFL” behind his name on the ballot, he said he wasn’t interested in the party’s talking points. Both parties are to blame for inaction this past legislative session, and Minnesotans were the ones who lost out, he said.

Just shy of 6,000 absentee and mail ballots had been cast as of Thursday, according to Administrative Services Director Deborah Erickson, setting the county on a course to match the number received in the last midterm election.
