office of the press secretary of the united states of america just shows that this restaurant, you know, this person s a chicken little pipsqueak kind of person that really probably has no right to be part of the public debate in the likes of somebody like sarah sanders. yesterday, i had lunch with rosa delaura who s a very, very liberal member, very anti-trump member, of the house, but she and i had a great respect for each other. we don t agree on a lot but we have a good friendship. i think that what happens right now is there s a lot of misbehavior on both sides. a lot of rhetorical irresponsibility. and it leads to things like this. but far worse, frankly was, you know, a little bit over a year ago when the bernie sanders supporter decided to take matters in his own hands and does the hate crime, the assassination attempt on steve scalice at the baseball game. so to me rhetoric and both sides
weiner s computer. one thing i did mention before that i just wanted to touch on is that the strzok messages could give more fodder to the argument that republicans and the president are pushing for a second special counsel to investigate the way the justice department is investigating trump. this could lead to more strength behind that argument. i think that s what we want to be looking for in the coming days. finally, the new york times is reporting that this report does not challenge the conclusion by comey not to prosecute hillary clinton. more to come on all of this. still ahead, play ball. steve scalice returning to the baseball diamond one year after being shot. i m ray and i quit smoking with chantix. in the movies, a lot of times, i tend to play the tough guy. but i wasn t tough enough to quit on my own. not until i tried chantix. chantix, along with support, helps you quit smoking. it reduced my urge to smoke to the point that i could stop.
in thinking things are going to happen. it s not because nothing happened after sandy hook. steve scalice got shot at a congressional baseball game and nothing happened. steve scalice himself has come out and pretty much said look, i think the gun laws we have are fairly sound the way they are. i don t have a lot of belief that any of this is going to lead to substantive change and it should. i want to add this. even when you talk about the stuffer, the training that happens in schools. i m a college professor, okay. i have received active shooter training. it still doesn t change the fact if someone really wanted to kill me, they re going to get there because they can get access to the guns and there s no amount of training i can do. how important is the money in all of this? we talked about the nra and the lobbying might that it has. you ve got this big republican donor saying he s going to withhold money until there s an assault weapons ban. is that going to be the pressure point?
assault weapon ban in this country. i had a friend from high school in 1993 who was murdered in cold blood in 01, that resulted in the 1994 assault weapon ban. we ve had this law. this can be done again. this is not hard. the republicans in congress need to pass this assault weapon ban now. there s no reason this kid whose name we shall not use anymore have access to that kind of weaponry. elise, where, what, what will we hear from leadership today? the president is going to speak. the president has already said on twitter this isn t that hard. if it s not that hard, why didn t republicans do anything after steve scalice was shot? after we saw a shooter at a softball game? after pulse nightclub when democrats had to sit in, republicans did nothing.
