Dozens of Maine lobstermen are now becoming kelp farmers as a way to diversify as warming oceans move the catch north.

Hattie Train is calling on her background in both fishing and science to bridge the communications gap between the fields.

As of Jan. 1, all lobstermen in Maine had to begin reporting their catch to the state.

American lobster may be a beloved and delicious splurge, but it is no longer a sustainable seafood choice and consumers should avoid eating it, according to Seafood Watch, a group that monitors how fish and other seafood are harvested from the world’s oceans.

The group says that the shellfish, long considered a more responsible choice, cannot be considered a guilt-free meal anymore.
