i chased after him, finally caught him. reporter: also seeing the commotion, shopper sammy johnson came in right after hawkins. finally caught him. he tried to fight. he gave up his stance so i gave up the stance also. swung at him. i popped him in the cheek. he swung back, he missed. i looked at the baby and the ladies standing there asking me to help. so i just tackled the guy and sat on him and called 911. reporter: a bart officer who happened to be nearby actually ended up arresting this suspect. he s being held tonight on a $350,000 cash bail. we ve also learned tonight that the suspect had been convicted of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in hayward back in 2003. elise kirschner, nbc bay area news. now for a developing story in the east bay. tragedy in the east bay. a 2-year-old boy is dead tonight after he was shot inside an apartment in antioch this morning. the child s parents are now charged with murder. police just wrapped up a briefing on that in
pipeline explosion. anne makovec is in san bruno where dozens of people are suing pg&e. good morning to you. reporter: good morning. the legal wrangling will be continuing today but look at this. this is something we found here in the neighborhood in san bruno that was destroyed by the blast. a little sign of hope, a little humanity here. apparently the property owner s kids, took it upon themselves to put this little tree up so there is something in this neighborhood that reminds people of happy things. but in the meantime, as we mentioned, all of that legal stuff, a lot to work out today. lawsuits involving the loss of homes here and the emotional and physical damage for those who used to those. attorneys for pg&e and those representing more than 100 san bruno residents will plan court proceedings including the timeline. the examiner is reporting those lawyers are expecting to decide to meet with the judge who was assigned to the lawsuit. almost all the suits are accusing
county judge who has been assigned the lawsuit stemming from the lawsuit. they are claiming failure to maintain or inspect the line and negligence. pg&e has said it is not going to rebuild the line in the neighborhood. a lot of the people who live here are still planning on rebuilding, including the man who used to live here. obviously that s going to take more time. there is another little controversy brewing in this whole situation because a couple of the 35 lawsuits were filed in san francisco county and pg&e wants them all to be consolidated. we ll talk about that coming up. thank you, anne makovec. oakland as fans are fighting to keep their team. so many people showed up at a meeting some were turned away. the city is look at plans for victory court which would include a stadium on the waterfront. major league baseball will have the final say on where a new stadium is built. court hearings beginning this morning for demonstrators who protested the verdict of johann
