Also in kabul, a group of afghan women were attacked by taliban fighters while protesting for their rights today, saturday. the taliban used tear gas and according to one protester, electric tasers to break up the protest, the second of its kind in as many days. what rights women will have is a huge unknown under the taliban. the taliban are saying they will have more right, including the right to work and to go to school than they did during their first stint in power when women werent allowed ...

With the talibans last stint in power in the 90s. things are returning to normal, but still deep uncertainty. many people worried that despite taliban assurances, they may be targeted. it is hard to overstate how much of a presence the taliban have in this city. everywhere you go you see heavily armed fighters patrolling in vehicles seized from the security forces or wandering the streets. a very surreal. but this seems to be the new normal in afghanistan, at least for now. as we were saying ear...
