Houston health officials announced earlier this week that the UK coronavirus variant was detected at most city wastewater treatment plants, “suggesting ongoing and uncontrolled community spread.”
While Texas Gov. Greg Abbot lifted the statewide mask mandate, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said that new evidence of widespread variants is “concerning amid the relaxed restrictions.”
Surveillance of wastewater has been deployed around colleges and cities to monitor for spread as even those without symptoms shed the virus in feces.

Disney is taking fire from conservatives complaining about so-called “cancel culture” for a change the company made to Disney Plus five months ago.
In October 2020, Disney Plus added a new content warning that appears as a slate prior to several older movies on the service that contain racist depictions, including “Dumbo,” “Peter Pan,” “Swiss Family Robinson,” “The Aristocats,” “Fantasia,” “The Jungle Book” and “Lady and the Tramp.”

Disney Plus has been accused of removing Dumbo, Peter Pan, and other movies as a result of its racist depictions of characters, after the company added an advisory to several of its titles. Critics have now called the move a response to “cancel culture,” incorrectly claiming that the movies have been removed from the service altogether. So what is actually happening to these classic films?
Is Disney Plus removing movies over racist characters?
No, Disney Plus isn’t pulling movies like Dumbo and Peter Pan from the streaming service. Instead, a small selection of films have been removed from the platform’s dedicated ‘Kids’ profiles, while the following advisory label also briefly appears ahead of each film for adult viewers:
