Just look at this video here on your screen. Flooding is wide spread. And some areas could see up to 20 inches of rain. More than 700,000 homes and businesses are now without power. And that number is sure to climb. Officials say it could take weeks to fully restore power. Now within the next hour or two, new orleans will be seeing its highest winds and heaviest rain. The levee system was vastly upgraded after katrina and holding as of now. South of the city, the rainfall and storm surge have pushed water over our levee in plaquemines parish. A flash flood emergency is in effect. I spoke to a critical care doctor in baton rouge bracing for the worst. We would be able to be the most significant event of our lifetime. We currently have a full hospital, but we re the regional medical center and so we are essentially acting that role. We have over 700 providers in the hospital. 50 of those are physicians. 400 are nurses. 300 are nonclinical. We re split into two staffs. We will do one shif

It has been 12 hours since i had a reuters sure in louisiana, on the 16th anniversary of hurricane katrina. But even as it has been downgraded from a hurricane for two hurricane one, over those 12 hours ida is wreaking havoc, especially from the storm surge it s leaving in its wake. Authorities the last hour reported a levee failing about lafitte just south of new orleans and officials warn that more than 200 people are in intimate danger there and need to seek higher ground. One death has been confirmed elsewhere in the states, a 60yearold man was killed when his house was hit by a fallen tree near baton rouge. And the entire city of new orleans is in the dark tonight s, the power companies say it s catastrophic transmission damage. The number of people without power throughout louisiana, is now more than 1 million, and rising. And there are fears that some of those people could remain without power for weeks. The national hurricane center says it is still bringing catastrophic storm surge, extreme winds and flash flooding, to southeastern louisiana. And that has brought scenes like this in the city of houma. The extraordinary power of those high, winds meanwhile, the entire city of new orleans is in the, dark without power tonight except for those with generators.
