First Alert: Severe thunderstorms possible over the Mid-South Thursday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Rain and a few thunderstorms in the forecast Thursday as a cold front approaches from the west. As the front slowly moves east, showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of the front and move through the region.
The Storm Prediction Center has downgraded portions of the Mid-South from a Slight Risk to a Marginal Risk. Severe Weather Risk Area for Thursday (Source: WMC)
Some of the thunderstorms could become severe with damaging winds and small hail. Locally heavy rainfall is also possible.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Storm Prediction Center’s Day 4 Outlook suggests the Mid-South could be the area to watch next week.
A cold front will approach the region from the north and west on Sunday and will linger into midweek next week. As a result, showers and thunderstorms will be possible each day, at least through Wednesday.

Severe thunderstorms will be possible, particularly on Sunday evening, based on the latest model trends. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes will be possible with any severe storms.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across the Mid-South on Thursday.
With the passing of a cold front, the Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of the WMC Action News 5 area in a Marginal Threat for severe weather.
Damaging winds and localized flash flooding will be primary severe weather threats. Isolated small hail will also be possible with a few storms. Marginal Risk on Thursday from The Storm Prediction Center (Source: WMC)
FIRST ALERT: Entire WAFB viewing area under Tornado Watch until 2 a.m.

UPDATE: The entire WAFB viewing area and much of south Louisiana will be under a Tornado Watch until 2 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24.
Expect the main storm energy to impact the greater Baton Rouge area from 11 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23 to 1 a.m. Thursday. Those impacts will be felt sooner for areas west of Baton Rouge areas and later for communities to the south & east.
