The F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter are two of the U.S. military's most advanced aircraft, each designed for different roles.

The F-35 Lightning II, a fifth-generation multirole fighter, has three versions: the conventional F-35A, the short take-off and vertical landing F-35B, and the carrier-capable F-35C.

Indeed, the fifth-generation aircraft can accomplish several different mission sets, including Strategic Attack, Air Superiority, Close Air Support, Electronic Warfare, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD), and Destruction Enemy Air Defense (DEAD).

The F-35 is slower and less maneuverable than some fourth-generation fighters – but while slow and steady may win the race, there is also the fact that if you can't see it, you can't destroy it.
