An immature app isn’t the least appealing aspect of this smart air purifier

As of our latest look, iDrive remains the most comprehensive online backup and sharing service we’ve tested. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s still affordable and comes with backup clients for nearly every PC and device, and is more than competent at local backup.  The company also provides additional storage for syncing all your devices and PCs, allows sharing of files with anyone, and has the ability to back up to a local drive. See how well it compares to the competition in our big onl...

Star Wars movie. It’s another smart air purifier, Blueair’s HealthProtect 7410i. The HealthProtect 7410i is a sizeable unit, measuring more than two feet tall and weighing nearly 28 pounds. Its upright design makes it a bit awkward to move around, but two wheels on the back of the unit let you drag it like a vacuum cleaner, albeit this is a bit awkward. Smart features aside, one of the unit’s biggest selling points is its ventilation design. While the typical high-end air purifier draws d...

Headphones with active noise cancellation (ANC) identify sound waves associated with noise and electronically generate an inverse sound wave that cancels it it out. Here’s what we mean: A sound wave is similar to the ripples in a pond. Toss a pebble in the pond and then introduce ripples of the opposite pattern and you’ll smooth the pond’s surface. Active noise cancellation (ANC) works in a similar manner. Microphones mounted on the headphone analyze ambient sound waves and then produce ...

Show More The Razer Kiyo Pro webcam is impressive. While the specs—1080p, 60fps—don’t look like anything on paper, the combination of software and hardware equal a device that I have no problem recommending—despite its high price. At $200 you might wonder how much better it could be compared to more budget-friendly and classic options like the Logitech C920, so let me tell you: Under most circumstances—whether you are hosting a Zoom session or streaming video games to the world—the...

Warchi / Getty Images Large or small, every company has secrets it needs to keep to stay in business. It might be its customer list, proprietary source code, next-gen product plans or even the secret sauce for its sandwiches, but they all need to be protected from hackers, snoops and industrial spies. The best way to keep these things—and every other confidential item—under wraps is to hide them in plain sight by encrypting them. The mathematical magic of encryption means tha...

Price comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwide If good things come in small packages, then the truism reigns supreme in the case of the Envoy Pro Elektron. It’s small, it’s good–by good I mean it’s rugged, fits easily in a shirt pocket, and delivers 1GBps reads and writes over SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps. (If you’re not up to speed to the latest USB naming conventions, that’s USB 3.X Gen 2.)  Design and specs  The Envoy Pro Elektron is a small, silvery rectangle...

Fingerprint-reading door locks aren’t known for their affordability, but startup BrillLock is aiming to change that with this new system, which recently completed a Kickstarter launch with more than $30,000 in backing. Although it’s a crowd-funded project (without even an official website as yet), the lock was sent to me for review in its reportedly finished, ready-to-ship form. TechHive doesn’t otherwise cover Kickstarter products. Before we dig into what it is and how it works, let’s ...

Show More Smart Christmas tree lights generally do little more than let you turn them on and off with voice commands, but Twinkly’s string lights take the smarts to a new level. Packed with a few dozen effects plus the ability to create your own, Twinkly’s light strings can deliver some truly impressive light shows with the help of an app that maps the position of each individual LED. Besides the Twinkly mobile app, you can also control the Twinkly lights with Alexa and Google Assistant, a...

Known for delivering bang-for-the-buck home entertainment products, Vizio made news earlier this year when it announced it would join LG and Sony in offering a line of OLED TVs. Vizio sent its 65-inch-class model OLED65-H1 for us to evaluate. Priced at $2,000 (on sale for $1,800 at the time of this writing), Vizio’s OLED costs a bit less than the least expensive 65-inch OLEDs from LG (model OLED65BXPUA, $1,997 as of this writing) and Sony (model XBR-65A8H, $2,498 as of this writing). But Viz...
