The CDC has released a roadmap for reopening schools in the middle of a pandemic. It emphasizes mask-wearing and social distancing. They said there is strong evidence now that in-person schooling can be done safely, especially at lower grade levels.

An administration official told CNN the CDCs five key strategies to reopening schools include hand washing, masking, social distancing, cleaning and ventilation, as well as contact tracing, isolation and quarantine. With the new year came a new strain of the coronavirus, which was first found in Britain and named B.1.1.7. It entered the United States on Dec. 29, 2020, and was found in Georgia on Jan. 5.
