SFPUL: Visit to ReCAP (Research Collections and Preservation Consortium)

A trip to ReCAP, the off-campus storage facility shared with Harvard, Columbia, and the New York Public Library. We will be touring the facility to see how the more than 17 million books there are stored and processed, with books shipping out daily to Princeton and other institutions. Spaces are limited for this special event and only open to Student Friends of PUL. Registration is required. Transportation to and from ReCAP will be provided from Firestone Library.

Student Friends of the Princeton University Library: Visit to Friends Private Collections in New York City

Join the Student Friends for a paid trip into New York City to visit the private collections of two Friends of the Princeton University Library this Friday, March 3! Friends Scott Clemons and Gene Flamm have offered to take ten students through their unique private collections and host us for lunch at The Groiler Club, America’s oldest society for bibliophiles! Scott will take us “From Princeton to Venice,” with his collection focusing on the history of humanity in print. Gene has been collecting the printed history of medicine for sixty years, finding other amazing things along the way as well. We will be taking the train from Princeton around 8:30am and providing round-trip tickets to students. Our tour will end at 4:30pm, after which you are welcome to return to Princeton with us or whenever you would like. This trip, including lunch, is completely free of charge to students. SFPUL Tour of Toni Morrison: Sites of Memory with Professor Autumn Womack

The Student Friends of the PUL invites its members to a guided tour of PUL's spring exhibition: "Toni Morrison: Sites of Memory." Dinner in town will follow the event. The exhibition includes around 100 original archival items most of them never before exhibited curated into six categories. “Beginnings” charts Morrison’s emergence as a writer, editor, and the author of “The Bluest Eye,” published in 1970; “Writing Time” draws from her day planners to emphasize the process of her craft, which she often honed in spare moments around her full-time career as an editor; “Thereness-ness” explores the role of place in her work and presents rarities such as drawings of architectural spaces for novels like “Beloved” and “Paradise;” “Wonderings and Wanderings” stages Morrison’s creative process from start to finish and reveals how Morrison’s published work holds a capacious archive of Black life; “Genealogies of Black Feminism” uses correspond

Scheide Library Showcase

Join the Student Friends of the Princeton University Library for a showcase of highlights from the Scheide Library led by Eric White, Scheide Librarian & Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections, Rare Books & Manuscripts. The Scheide Library is one of the foremost collections of rare books in the entire world. Housed in Firestone Library on C Floor, this one-of-a-kind library belonged to William H. Scheide, a 1936 Princeton alumnus who left an extraordinary collection of more than 2,500 rare printed books and manuscripts (valued at more than $300 million) to Princeton, the largest gift in the University’s history. Due to limited capacity, this event will only be open to Student Friends of Princeton University Library and prospective members. Registration will be required. An early dinner at a local Princeton restaurant following the showcase is included. A separate communication will be sent to registrants to confirm details.
