It s too cold for crossing guards

THUNDER BAY - Crossing guard service will not be supplied on Wednesday morning because of cold temperatures. The City of Thunder Bay, which operates the program, made the decision to cancel the morning service, with Environment Canada reporting temperatures of slightly below -33 C. The service is expected to return in the afternoon and parents are advised to ensure students can get to school safely without crossing guards on duty. School buses are running as usual, though Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay have said some cold-temperatures delays could occur. In the region, the Northwestern Ontario Student Services Consortium says it has cancelled all bus service for students, affecting a number of communities including Dryden, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Kenora.

The Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay has launched delay reporting notification service through the Bus Status free mobile app. The app will provide you with real-time notifications whenever buses are delayed by 15 minutes or more. The notifications will come in the form of alerts, which will also include service cancellations due to the ongoing severe driver shortage and adverse weather conditions. The consortium provides transportation services to students of the Lakehead District School Board, Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board and Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique des Aurores Boréales.
