EUGENE, Ore. – Students in Eugene School District 4J are required to continue wearing face masks at schools – indoors and outdoors – despite updated mask wearing guidance from the state.
Officials with the district said masks are required for students and staff throughout the school day from arrival to dismissal and during outdoor activities. The reason? The district said it’s intended to maintain consistency and safety for students.
Starting June 1, however, masks will be optional for staff members who are outside when no students are present. Physical distancing must be maintained. Fully vaccinated staff whose status has been verified will not be required to wear masks or social distance indoors when no students are present.
Students in Eugene School District 4J high schools will have an opportunity to get the COVID-19 vaccine at a free clinic on campus next week.
The district is holding a clinic on Wednesday, May 12 at South Eugene High School for students 16 and older to get the vaccine. Eligibility has been open to everyone 16 and older since April 19 and there have been other clinics in the area through county public health, but this is 4J s first on-site clinic for students.
This will make 4J the second district in the area to hold an on-campus clinic after Bethel School District in Eugene had three days of vaccinating students at Willamette High School last week.
