DES MOINES — A subcommittee of Iowa House lawmakers this week advanced Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds’ wide-ranging health care bill.

Iowans whose family members were killed or permanently disabled in crashes involving commercial truck drivers pleaded with lawmakers to abandon a bill that shields trucking companies.

Advocates on both sides of the abortion debate praised aspects of Gov. Kim Reynolds’ omnibus health care bill and criticized other parts Wednesday during an Iowa House subcommittee meeting.

These protections would impact how cases, where employees cause injury, death, or other damages while on the job, are handled.

The bill would eliminate a biennial requirement for electric utilities to provide their plans to state regulators about emissions projects.

DES MOINES — A depleted state fund for emergency financial assistance to Iowa veterans will receive a financial shot in the arm.

Gov. Kim Reynolds approved $440,000 for the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund, which recently exhausted its available spending for the first time in a decade.
