Nearly 190 countries across the world will be requiring over two billion COVID vaccine doses by the end of 2021, as per the vaccine alliance GAVI. A former Indian diplomat says that India and China, two big exporters of COVID vaccines, must collaborate in helping other countries access the COVID jab, despite their ongoing border differences.
Former Indian Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal has said the so-called race between India and China to supply COVID jabs to other countries is not the “correct” way to look at things. He said this while pointing out that even the joint production capacity of the two Asian powerhouses wouldn’t be enough to meet the global demand for inoculation towards the end of 2021.

The Indian Foreign Minister arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday. His schedule includes discussions with the President, Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister. Any visit by any Indian minister or senior official is important, this is undebatable. Not because ‘we are old friends’ or ‘have a long, shared history’ (the ‘friendship’ is debatable and the ‘history’ has been by and large sordid).
