With rental vacancies reaching dire lows in Central Queensland, tenants should invest in creating good relationships with their realtor and landlord.
A government-funded course is available face-to-face in Rockhampton and Gladstone in March, in addition to an online, self-paced option.
The Skillsets for Successful Tenancies - Dollars and Sense course has been designed to help individuals and families gain and maintain a tenancy.
According to the Tenancy Skills Instutute’s state manager, Mark Davidson, the course is acknowledged by more than 160 real estates around Queensland, including four in Rockhampton.
“We’ve worked hand in hand with property managers and the REIQ to make sure our training is really relevant to the industry,” he said.

As rental properties run short, people who have never before experienced homelessness have been left with no housing options. Our staff are actively working with these community members to connect them with relevant services where possible, including housing, a spokesman from the community centre said. All relevant authorities are aware of the situation and the individuals are actively engaged with HBNC staff. The spokesman said while HBNC was not a provider of homelessness support services, the centre s community navigators and tenancy advice team work tirelessly to connect at-risk community members with housing and other services.
IMPACT Community Services is once again running the popular Skillsets for Successful Tenancies - Dollars and Sense course, and if you re looking to get an extra advantage in Bundaberg s difficult rental market, it could be just the ticket. IMPACT s Lesley Allen said the free tenancy training program would help to educate tenants about important tenancy and life skills required to rent a property. Ms Allen said IMPACT was passionate about supporting tenants experiencing difficulty in entering the rental market or keeping a property. Bundaberg s rental vacancy rate was 0.4% for the December 2020 quarter, according to data from the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.
