Kendrapada: The long-awaited mass nesting of Olive Ridley Sea turtles started in Kendrapada district’s Gahirmatha marine sanctuary, the world’s larges.
Last year, 5.12 lakh turtles had arrived en-masse for mass nesting from 8 March to 13 March. This time it was delayed by a month, probably due to unsteady sea and spell of unseasonal rain.

A 34-year-old man was killed by a saltwater crocodile at Dakhinabheda village within Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapada district. This is the seventh such death in seven months. The forest department will provide a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the family members of the deceased.
