The initiative, called "Summer Boost," will give charter schools funds to bolster their existing summer programs or launch new ones.

The new initiative is separate from the city Education Department’s previously-announced Summer Rising program, which is slated to enroll 110,000 city kids in a combined school and enrichment program this summer.
