We are fortunate and honored he chose to offer a parting thoughts that the place for his atfessional journey began, carnegie where he served as an intern in the Junior Fellows Program after graduating from wesleyan. I have known nick for many years since the 1990s, we served together in the state department, when he worked for did this ross in the middle east coordinators office. Next went on to serve as one of the very few senior u. S. Government officials to serve virtually continuously since 9 11 and fighting terrorism around the world. Over the last three years, he has led and molded hundreds of colleagues across different federal agencies into a remarkably strong and cohesive chain. Government is not the best at finding new solutions to tough problems. Government isnt the best at being flexible or adaptable to a changing environment. In the last days of the obama 10nistration,dhs announced million of grants to reflect this preference. With the Trump Administration the reevaluation of these grants have taken place. Dhs is now trying to recalibrate cve toward Law Enforcement. A range of Police Department have had their cve budgets increased. Projects seem to have been sidelined. That is one of the topics we but thereuss today, is much else that needs to be addressed. Who are the best partners to work with . Should there be a strict criteria for engagement between partners . Do all extreme ideologies need to be tackled as part of cve . What lessons can be learned from European Countries . How do we measure success . We should answer these questions soon because there has been more talk about cve than action. We have a truly stellar panel today to address these questions.
