The $3.5 million grant from the Department of Energy is part of a larger project that will bring together researchers from Arizona's three universities to study climate in the state's Sun Corridor.

The company will base its operations at the Pima Community Colleges new Automotive Technology and Innovation Center on its downtown campus.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Pony.ai, a developer of self-driving cars based in China and Silicon Valley, will begin testing its autonomous vehicles in Tucson, with trained safety drivers behind the wheel, in a partnership with Pima Community College.
