［ムンバイ ２日 ロイター］ - インドで２日、新型コロナウイルスによる累計死者数が４０万人を突破した。その半数は同国が感染第２波に見舞われた過去数カ月に死亡した。
感染者数は累計３０４５万人と、米国の３３００万人に次ぎ世界で２番目に多い。米国の死者数は６０万４０００人で、ブラジルは５１万８０００人。
第２波では４月から病床不足が深刻になり、ピークだった５月は死者の急増で遺体の処理が追い付かず、多数の遺体がガンジス川に流される状態となった。
また、インドのラジャギリ社会科学大学のリジョ・Ｍ・ジョン教授は国内全ての州で死者数が過少報告されていると指摘する。集計システムのタイムラグが主な原因だという。
