Altrusa of Monroe to host PJ Day donation drive

The Monroe News Altrusa International of Monroe will host a PJ Party donation drive on behalf of Sunrise House and Family Counseling and Shelter Services. Donations can be dropped off, drive-up format, from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at a white canopy that will be set up in front of the La-Z-Boy Center at Monroe County Community Community College, 1555 S. Raisinville Road. Volunteers will be wearing face masks and pajamas, and come to the cars to accept donations.  This is in support of Sunrise House domestic violence shelter, as each resident receives a new set of pajamas upon arrival. The requested items include women s pajamas in sizes ranging from small to 3x; and boys pajamas ranging in size from 7/8 to 14/16. There is also a need for women s socks and underwear in all sizes; and boys and girls socks and underwear in all sizes.

Orel Anthony Schadel Jr., 1940 - 2021 Orel Anthony Schadel Jr. Orel Anthony (Tony/ Pee-Wee) Schadel Jr., 80, passed away January 15, 2021 at the University of Kansas Health Systems, Pawnee Valley Campus, Larned, KS. He was born March 20, 1940 in Cliffside Park, NJ., the son of Orel A. Schadel Sr. and Mary B. Pikulski Schadel. He graduated from Burdett High School in 1959 and attended college on a dual track and football scholarship at Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS. In August 1960 he joined the United States Navy, serving his country for 20 years. A proud Navy Veteran, he was stationed at various locations around the world including the Philippine Islands; Norfolk, VA; New Zealand (Antarctica); Vietnam and San Diego, CA.
