Terry McDermott rescued countless swimmers during his career as a lifeguard before he died on September 1 after a battle with cancer. But this rescue struck a chord with him and fans of the show.

Subscriber only A former Coast nipper, now in his sixth season as a Bondi Rescue lifeguard, says he feels like the luckiest man in the world to be a part of the team. Jackson Doolan grew up doing Nippers at Alexandra Headland and Mooloolaba and was a Surf Life Saving Australian champion before he moved to Sydney in 2016 to become a lifeguard on Bondi Rescue. The 28-year-old said it was a dream come true to be a part of the Bondi team. I remember when the first season premiered, I would have been 12 years old and I remember watching that with my family ⦠it was something that I looked at and always thought was amazing, he said.
