2 3C! Coast shivers into big freeze as temperatures plunge

There won t be quite the chill factor but it s certainly below average and it will feel like a winter s day, absolutely, he said. It s going to stay below average for quite a few days, I d say until next week. Although daytime temperatures through the weekend were expected to warm up, Mr Regano said Coast residents would still reach for their Ugg boots and dressing gowns. It s still going to feel wintry the whole time, the nights will be very cold, so they re going to be in single digits for quite a few days, he said.

Feathers fly as brutal Coast storm batters local wildlife

Premium Content Subscriber only Hundreds of wild animals have been treated at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital after severe storms hammered the Sunshine Coast. Over 150 lorikeets were admitted after heavy rainfall, hail and strong winds restricted them moving or flying to safety. Founder of Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, Terri Irwin, said the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital was regularly faced with alarmingly high numbers of patient admissions during the aftermath of a storm. This kind of weather is devastating for wildlife who are directly impacted by these types of weather events, Ms Irwin said. It is deeply saddening to see that more than 150 lorikeets had been admitted to the hospital in a span of 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall, flash flooding risk as Bureau issues warning

The trough was then expected to move south or south-easterly on Monday, moving parallel to the coast along the coastal fringe or offshore, bringing with it heavy downpours. The threat was dependent on the track the trough took, but the Bureau warned heavy rainfall which could spark flash flooding could develop on Sunday night and into Monday. Six-hourly rainfall of 120-160mm was expected with more intense localised falls of 200-250mm possible in coastal communities and on Fraser Island. A flood watch had been issued for coastal catchments and the likes of Maroochydore, Gympie, Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach were listed as areas which could be affected.
