With Odisha reeling under intense heatwave conditions over the last few days, the state has reported the seasons first sunstroke death, officials said on Friday. Sixty-two-year-old Laxmikanta Sahu of Maheshpur in Balasore district died due to sunstroke on April 15. This was the first sunstroke death this summer, an official at the Special Relief Commissioners office said.

As many as 11 people who attended the Maharashtra Bhushan award event in Navi Mumbai on Sunday died of sunstroke, the Chief Ministers Office said in a release on Sunday night. The weather station nearest to the venue recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
