TUPELO ⢠Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee County School Districtâs 2020-21 teacher and administrator of the year have persevered, continuing to provide quality education for the countyâs students.
Melissa Schaefer, a kindergarten and first grade special education teacher at Mooreville Elementary School, was named Teacher of the Year; Dr. Karen Letson, principal at Guntown Middle School, was named Administrator of the Year.
Schaefer found her calling after working at the Harrisburg Day School and the McDougal Center early in her career. Sheâs been an educator for about 25 years now.
Schaefer came to Mooreville in 2001 as a special education teacher before moving to a second grade regular education classroom after earning her Masterâs degree in Elementary Education. After about 15 years of teaching second grade, Schaefer returned to special education in August 2020.
