On Tuesday, April 27th, we are bringing forward to the Board of Education the curriculum for our new Ethnic Studies course at Los Alamitos High School. This new course is available as an elective-option for Junior and Senior students, who are currently enrolled or have previously completed a year-long US History course, to satisfy a “g” requirement for college admission.
Recently, special interest groups with their own agendas have attempted to discredit this course by spreading misleading and false information about the intent, design, and learning outcomes of the course. At a non-District sponsored, Town Hall Meeting last week held at Cornerstone Church in Long Beach, these groups tried to connect the controversial concept of Critical Race Theory to our course. We are fortunate to serve a community that has been our dedicated partner in opening both our Hybrid and [email protected] schooling options for our students. This has been a difficult task for all and an even more difficult adjustment for our families. In a year that has thrown many curve balls, we have remained Better Together, united in a common interest to provide the best we can for Los Alamitos USD students and families.
On the recent survey sent to all families enrolled in our Hybrid setting, approximately two-thirds of our Hybrid families responded and more than 65% of those responses indicated a desire to transition to an extended school day beginning in late April/early May for the last few weeks of school.
