This lower level, even those three miles, well still call this lower level ash, will be picked up by the lower level winds and the surface winds. those winds are blowing right towards the u.k. even though other countries are opening air space, so to speak, the air space that theyre opening is above 35,000 feet. because the ash that was very high has either blown away or settled out. so the air above 30,000 feet is clean, clean enough for planes to go through. the problem is getting to that 30,00...

This is the forecast from the u.k. office in england. showing the surface to 20,000 foot winds are directing this a little farther to the west. getting us close as newfoundland, canada. there are flights canceled out of st. johns. it shows that some of the winds at the lower elevations are bringing some of that light ash over towards north america. looks like this is going to be an ongoing story throughout the week. well update you as best we can from the cnn severe weather center. >> good stuff...
