Over 60 community gardens are set to be established and at least 500 people in Isabela will be trained in vegetable production, gardening, and food processing under one of two projects recently launched by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD).
(DOST-PCAARRD / MANILA BULLETIN)
DOST-PCAARRD recently launched the two projects “Intensifying Vegetable Production to Mitigate Crisis Brought about by COVID-19” and “S&T-based Home Gardening Towards a Sustainable Source of Food for Families” under the Pagkain at Kabuhayan sa Pamayanan component, and are being implemented by the Visayas State University (VSU), and Isabela State University (ISU)
By collecting these experiences the organisation hopes to influence future social care and shielding services. The charity will be hosting ‘friendly’ Zoom sessions where people shielding can work on projects together. The project is asking people who are interested to join for a ‘virtual cup of tea and a chat’ next Wednesday, January 13. If those shielding would prefer to send in photos, artwork or writing they are welcomed to do so. The project aims to curate a gallery of work to share with health and social care decision makers.
