The deep space probe lost contact with Earth earlier this week.

Project manager Suzanne Dodd said that the news had “buoyed our spirits”.

The issue is expected to be resolved by October 15, when the satellite is expected to perform an automated re-orientation manoeuvre

After days of silence, NASA has heard from Voyager 2 in interstellar space billions of miles away.

Although NASA ground trackers temporarily have lost the ability to communicate with the Voyager 2 space probe more than 12 billion miles from Earth, NASA said Tuesday it has detected a "heartbeat" signal from the craft.

The legendary probe went silent two weeks ago as the result of NASA transmitting a potentially faulty command.

In roughly 296,000 years, Voyager 2 is expected to pass by the star Sirius at a distance of 4.3 light-years

NASA scientists announced Tuesday afternoon that the Deep Space Network of antennae had picked up a carrier signal from the Voyager 2 Spacecraft after days of silence.

NASA has lost contact with its deep space, Voyager 2 satellite after giving the unmanned module an incorrect command two weeks ago, the Associated Press reported.

NASA's intergalactic spacecraft Voyager 2 is still sending out a signal after the space agency thought communication was lost with the 46-year-old spacecraft until October.
