Two companies fined after workers exposed to asbestos
A contractor and property management company have been fined after workers were exposed to asbestos during the refurbishment of an office block in Manchester.
A statement from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said that the block, in Hazel Grove, Stockport, had general waste, including asbestos, discarded on part of its roof. It had also fallen onto a car park below, where members of the public would pass by.
A survey commissioned by Swift Property Management MCR in May 2018 identified the materials as being present, but this was not passed to contractor Samer Constructions before the refurb began, the HSE said.
