Rev. Frederick Hewitt bought the Walker Tavern in 1921 and began restoring it — and telling stories about who might or might not have stayed there.

An early transportation route that originated in Monroe was called the Monroe Pike.  It was one of three roads that connected Chicago to Detroit.
