Three New Directors Join Metropolitan’s Board Representing Los Angeles, San Fernando, Municipal Water District of Orange County March 10, 2021 GMT LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 9, 2021-- Three new directors representing the cities of Los Angeles and San Fernando, and the Municipal Water District of Orange County were seated today on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Environmental and social justice advocate Miguel Luna joins the 38-member board as a Los Angeles representative, succeeding Jesús Quiñonez, who served since 2006. Government relations consultant Adan Ortega returns to Metropolitan to represent San Fernando, replacing Sylvia Ballin, who served as a director from 2007 to 2018 and from May 2019 to February 2021. Water industry veteran Dennis Erdman joins the board to represent the Municipal Water District of Orange County, following Larry McKenney, who served for six years.

Mural in San Fernando Valley Aims to Keep Attention on 'Children in Cages' Policy – NBC Los Angeles

“San Fernando is joining a coalition of artists from Las Cruces, NM, San Antonio, TX, Sacramento, CA, Los Angeles, CA and other large cities to keep this very important issue at the forefront of national conversation,” said artist Lalo Garcia.  The eight-foot by eight-foot installation depicts children in a room behind a physical chain-link fence and was placed on the city-owned wrought iron fence located in the Civic Center parking lot--at thecorner of First Street and Maclay Avenue--facing the bike path.  Mayor Sylvia Ballin, who is serving her third term on the San Fernando City Council, expressed her support of the mural program.

The “Children in Cages” mural was installed on Jan. 7, after it was approved in September 2020 by the San Fernando City Council, according to the city. The mural was made in support of a coalition of artists using art to keep the “Children in Cages” policy in the forefront of the national policy discussion.
