As we take steps toward a better world that is inclusive and equitable, Paige West is at the forefront, pushing boundaries in the field of anthropology. Her primary goal is to strengthen Indigenous sovereignty over biodiversity and tradition and to develop ways in which anthropological methods can add to this practice. She holds the Claire Tow Professorship in Anthropology at Barnard College and Columbia University, where she serves as a director of Columbia’s Center for the Study of Social Difference. She has worked in Papua New Guinea since 1996, to understand biodiversity and traditions of Indigenous people and help them cons
affect the search or not at all? it would certainly affect the search because of the ships on the surface and the deployment of equipment. but the bottom probably wouldn t be as effective as what is happening at the surface. there are currents in the deep sea that could move things around but it s likely for an object this large once it s settled to the bottom, it s not going to move around too much. once the target is located, that s when the real operation of salvage recovery begins. right now the focus has to be on the most likely search area and deploying equipment that can conduct that kind of search. okay. sylvia earl, thank you so much for joining me. lots of questions to talk about
flights have been relentless, four missions a day. we know how far they travel to get out there. what you will see is an onset of fatigue, human factors, the aircraft will be stretched to their limits. as the servicing gets longer and longer because the hours the aircraft have flown, you have to regroup and look at what state the aircraft are in and what state the air crew are in. because there s only a limited number of resources and they are operating at surge tempos so there has to be a natural break. i agree with the defense minister and with the australian prime minister, this would be a natural and pragmatic thing to do. it s a sobering prospect because obviously there is impatience from the families involved and all these countries that have allocated so many resources, assuming this happens, to have had all these days and not find anything. sylvia, looking at this, is there something that investigators as they have been scanning and searching, is there something they have lea
