Picture: FT FILE Tacirua Transport Company Ltd (TTCL) will face disciplinary action from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for illegally operating a school bus route without prior authorisation. LTA chief executive officer Samuel Simpson said it was against the law for bus operators to operate outside of their authorised Road Route Licence (RRL). “Bus operators are aware of this as it is part of the conditions of their bus permits. This is completely illegal and they will be brought before the LTA board for disciplinary action,” he said. Mr Simpson said as a bus operator, the responsibility rested solely on their shoulders.

Jan 22, 2021 12:31:52 PM The Tacirua Transport Limited bus ploughed into a house yesterday has been inspected by the Land Transport Authority of Fiji (LTA) and found to be unworthy to operate. LTA chief executive Samuel Simpson said they found the bus’s mechanical handbrake was inoperative and this is a serious failure of Tacirua Transport’s maintenance system. “Furthermore, the driver failed to carry out any pre-service checks before taking the bus on the road - an essential safety measure to ensure the safety and security of the passengers you are carrying.” He said that incidents like these were the primary reason the Authority established these rules and guidelines in the first place.
