CORONAVIRUS cases across Basingstoke and Deane are continuing to fall, the latest statistics reveal. The number of new cases recorded in the borough in the seven days to February 5 fell by just over 35 per cent compared to the week before. The borough s rolling rate, the number of cases recorded per 100,000 of the population, is now lower than the UK average and also below the Hampshire average. This includes in Kingsclere and Heath End, where less than three new Covid cases were recorded in the most recent period that data was available. And in Tadley East, Pamber and Silchester, the rolling rate is now below 40.
THE NUMBER of coronavirus cases is above the national average in all parts of Basingstoke apart from one. Kempshott is the only area of the town that has a rolling rate, the number of new cases per 100,000 of the population, that is below the England average. And despite lockdown restrictions, the virus is still spreading fast in two parts of the town, putting them among the worst category. Viables and Basingstoke Central, Black Dam & Eastrop have rolling rates higher than 800. Viables, which includes much of Cranbourne, southern Brighton Hill and the industrial estates, has a rolling rate of 1,123.5, and has seen 88 new cases in the seven days to January 11 - the most recent data available.

VIABLES and Chineham have emerged as the new coronavirus hotspots in Basingstoke and Deane borough, figures have shown. The number of Covid cases reported in Viables during December 5-12 was 37, a sharp rise from 10 in the previous week. In the same period, Chineham saw 15 new cases, a rise from four in the previous week. The rolling rate of Viables is 472.4 per 100,000 population, which is significantly above the national average. The rolling rate of Chineham is 275. Houndmills & Oakbridge, Hatch Warren, Tadley East, Pamber & Silchester, Bramley, Sherfield & the Sherbornes and Buckskin & Worting have all seen a rise in number of coronavirus cases during the same period.
