I want you to pick out with me. Thats tonight at 9 00. Theres a t lot of red and orange here. This red line is the Atmospheric River, the fire hose pointed right in the middle of the bay. Now, it might be tough to pick it out, but that will be a near constant feature with us. There we are at 2 00 a. M. We have at least a branch of it up here, but there is a theme going into tomorrow which is very important. Look at sunday morning. Still pretty stationary for the bay area. The majority of the rain that will come in at a steady, pounding rate will be toward monterrey and santa cruz. Doesnt mean we wont get rain up here sunday. There is still good rain here. But if you want to focus on the most relentless, you follow the line an it will be a little to the south sunday. That is somewhat good news for the bay area getting more manageable rain amounts. I dont want to down play this. This will be a good rainmaker for us. It can lead to some minor localized street flooding. Maybe some of the w
This morning we heard where we are today with cybersecurity. So, you know, my career in cybersecurity started when i joined the National Security agency and the offensive mission set and that gives you a perspective of how to defend against very advanced actors so the point of this panel this morning is to talk about the priorities but with a focus of how we resist attack. Okay . So on our panel today, we have a mix of commercial Sector Companies working with the government and a mix of government folks that are really focused on Important Missions and are critical to the National Security. In my opinion, given my experience i think offense always wins. And with that mindset, i want to take a look at what were doing today and how we can give you all Lessons Learned and some front line knowledge about things to take back to your organization and implement. This gets to the heart of the issue, though. Scaling. We all lots of systems. We are certainly dealing with a scale attack surface a
Of a u. S. Trade war, is it a risk to investors . First, to our top story, facebook shares took a hit earlier today after the wall street journal reported Mark Zuckerberg knew about the social networks problematic privacy practices. Facebook uncovered emails in the process of responding to a federal privacy investigation, raising concerns that they would be harmful to the company if they became public. The journal says that is part of the reason why the company salt sought a quick settlement. Here in me in san francisco, our bloomberg tech executive editor, so, tom, explained this to me here. The nuts and bolts here. What is the journal saying that facebook uncovered . Tom they are referring to an email exchange, which, by the way, they have not seen them. We certainly havent. We dont know where they got them. Apparently there was this exchange in 2012, around the time that the ftc was handing down this consent degree punishment about facebook and its privacy practices. At the time, th
Investments in three sectors, semiconductors, quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence the order will prohibit investments in some forms of those technologies and require americans to disclose investments to u. S. Governments in some cases. And you know the one thats not necessarily going to be included which tiktok. Thats your thing. Its not been my thing. Its been the National Security thing. Right. For so long. But no action taken yet bipartisan cause, problem. It should be. Im not sure it should be. Its surprising given all this effort in this regard and why, for example, under the ai rubric, for example, it wouldnt be included. Think of all the data the Chinese Government has access to. And thats what people say. It has all how many lazy girl videos Andrew Ross Sorkin watches per day. I have yet to be convinced by the way the Chinese Government is seeing all this tiktok in terms of the way theyre trying to build this thing in a separate way but thats a separate story. The con
Joining us here in person and online. Big thank you to the opposite of National Cyber director team. Welcome to the launch of a Cyber Workforce and education strategy. I am a small part of this event. I want to share what we will be talking about, who will be talking to you at first say a thank you 2000 he wrote. This will not be a small conversation. We have a lot to get through. I direct the Cyber Initiative here at the Atlantic Council. One of the things that has been most striking about our work in the past five years is we often treat Cyber Security as a technology problem. One of the things i found striking and encouraging about the workforce strategy is its focus on Building Community and capacity to secure these systems, focusing on a human problem to address these technologies. It is linked to deeper issues about how we embed diversity in policy and confront challenges in education and workforce development. I am delighted to see this conversation led by the Deputy Director he
