An Ottawa courtroom heard Friday that the city was seized during the "Freedom Convoy" protest last year, as protesters blocked streets and caused public transit to be rerouted away from downtown.

The sound of honking horns was "incessant" and "intolerable" when big rig trucks arrived in Ottawa as part of the "Freedom Convoy" protest, local resident Sarah Gawman told an Ottawa courtroom Thursday.

The Crown intends to call five local residents as part of its case, as well as an employee for the National Arts Centre and an employee for OC Transpo

Court is expected to begin hearing today from Ottawa locals who lived downtown near the base of the convoy protest in early 2022.

The sanctuary at a church in Ottawa was "brutally altered" during the "Freedom Convoy," the churchs administrator told court.

The trial was initially scheduled to last only 16 days but, with only three days left to go, the Crown seems nowhere near the conclusion of its case.
