NEW DELHI: JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, whose photographs of bandaged forehead became one of the most powerful images of the 2020 fee hike movement, will be contesting the West Bengal assembly election on CPM ticket from Jamuria. The 25-year-old from Durgapur is pursuing MPhil/Phd from the School of International Relations.
Ghosh joins a long list of ex-JNUSU presidents who graduated to state and national politics: DP Tripathi, Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechuri, Chandrashekhar Prasad, Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Tanvir Akhtar and Kanhaiya Kumar. With the exception of Tanveer who won as an NSUI candidate, the others represented Left student bodies of different hues.
