Last year, Smith’s Farm saw an idyllic spring that set the stage for an outstanding season for its signature Maine broccoli, which started more than a week early and brought record yields.
Smith’s Farm has been growing broccoli at its flagship location in Presque Isle, ME, since the mid 1980s, providing its prized Stag Brand product to retail clients along the Eastern Seaboard.
Smith’s Farm carried the momentum of a record-setting summer season in Maine into its fall broccoli and cauliflower deals in the Southeast, where it has enjoyed strong volume and yields.
Tara Smith Vighetti, a partner at Smith’s Farm, said harvest wrapped up in Maine in October, and the transition to its southeastern production areas was a smooth one.

While Smith’s Farm grows broccoli and cauliflower up and down the East Coast, its home base and key production area is Maine, and optimism abounds as the company gets set to begin harvest in the Pine Tree State.
Tara Smith Vighetti, a partner in the multigenerational family-owned business, said weather has been extremely cooperative this year and harvest should start by the Fourth of July approximately two weeks earlier than normal.
“This season, we have acquired additional land base with enough time to plant more acres with better infrastructure, so we are looking forward to this season with the utmost confidence,” she said.
