Tartu in Estonia promises hearty food, stay-late spas and a leaning tower, as it celebrates its moment in the limelight, as a European Capital of Culture for 2024
Two recently renovated venues in Georgia, the Vani Archeological Museum in Georgia's west and Ilia Chavchavadze Literary Memorial Museum in capital Tbilisi, have been nominated for the 2023 European Museum of the Year Award by the European Museum Forum.
A memorial ceremony Thursday marked the reinterment of the remains of over 200 people, both civilians and military, at a Tartu cemetery, ETV news show 'Aktuaalne kaamera' (AK) reported.
Work on renewing the permanent exhibition at the Tartu City Museum was originally due to be completed in time for 2024, Tartu's year as European Capital of Culture. However, now the city has postponed the renewal for an unspecified period of time, citing a lack of available funds. The proposed construction of a new cultural center in the heart of Tartu, which is estimated to cost €90 million, remains firmly in the city's plans.
