The situation is worse in the case of the Indian IT industry, with none of the 54 companies in the NSE-1000 index having a female CEO. Market leader TCS, which employs more than 200,000 women (constituting over a third of its workforce), has no women in its key managerial personnel (KMPs), as per its annual report. In fact, among the top 5 IT companies, only Wipro has a woman in a KMP role - it appointed Aparna Iyer as CFO in September last year.

The BSE Sensex was trading 82 points or 0.11% higher at 72,509. Nifty50 was trading at 22,083, up 43 points or 0.19% at around 9.20 am. From the Sensex pack, NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, SBI, ITC, and Nestle opened in the green, while Wipro, TCS, L&T, IndusInd Bank, and Tech Mahindra opened in the red.

While Indias GDP is 11 times bigger than that of Pakistans economy, Tata Groups market value has outmuscled Pakistans GDP. The market capitsalition of all listed Tata companies is now at $365 billion, beating Pakistans GDP which has shrunk to $341 billion. The growth in Tata companies market cap in last one year has been driven by Tata Motors, Trent, Titan, TCS, and Tata Power. This doesnt take into account unlisted companies worth a few billion dollars from Indias largest business house.

Among the Sensex stocks, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, and Maruti closed higher, while L&T, Wipro, TCS, Tata Motors, and Axis Bank ended with cuts. The market capitalisation of all listed companies on BSE surged by Rs 2.17 lakh crore to Rs 391.7 lakh crore.

Government-owned telecom operator BSNL has a ‘Vodafone plan’ to take on bigger rivals Airtel and Reliance Jio. The company’s employee union has sent a letter to the telecom and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw (seen by The Economic Times), asking to be allowed to use Vodafone-Idea’s 4G network.
