here is the president over negotiations on this budget. my hope is that what s different this time is we have an adult conversation where everybody says here s what is important. and here s how we are going to pay for it. so bottom line, white house aides have said that this budget is a political document. it s a starting point of a conversation with lawmakers on capitol hill. they continue to maintain that will be the case. but they say you have to figure out how you are going to pay for things if you are going to spend or invest on other projects. shep? shepard: mike emanuel live tonight at the white house. thanks. as i mentioned, members of both parties now say we have to tackle the big three entitlements now if we really want to bring down this massive deficit. today, lawmakers got the chance to question the president s budget director about why the white house is not doing that right now. team fox coverage continues. carl cameron on the hill tonight. carl, we heard it from b
is spreading. bill: we ve talked about so many states strapped across the nation getting ready to fight their own battles. team fox coverage, doug mckelway in columbus, ohio, first mike towin back at his post in madison, wisconsin. what do you expect there mike? good morning. reporter: good morning. we expect the senate to get underway without the four democrats who fled over the state line, they can decide the budget items without the lead for a quorum, therefore, they don t need 20 senators inside the chamber. they re going to get to work on different nonbudget items. one they possibly will take up has been the debate of democrats, that is a requirement to show i.d. when registering for voting. that is going to be decided without input from the senate democrats. governor scott walker for his part despite all of this pressure still isn t giving up an inch. he addressed the state yesterday with demonstrators outside of his window and said he would not even entertain the idea of
they are talking about another million man march in a couple of days time. that could escalate things again, shep. shepard: dominick dinatale early this saturday morning in cairo. we heard today that officials from the obama administration has been speaking with their egyptian counterparts to consider how a possible power transfer would work. that, in case president mubarak does agree to step aside before the september elections. team fox coverage continues. mike emanuel at the white house now. mike, what do you know behind the scenes talks. one proposal would have assume power with the backing of the military until elections could be held. white house aides are emphasizing that the egyptians really have to make the decisions about the way they want to go. that the u.s. is not forcing one particular plan. we do know that there is a lot of this talk is focusing on the egyptian military, which is widely respected and has worked closely with the u.s. military over the years. in fact,
this is one of those times. the people of egypt have spoken. their voices have been heard, and egypt will never be the same. shepard: president obama says this is just the beginning of egypt s transition to democracy. team fox coverage continues now. mike emanuel live at the white house. mike, the president saying the u.s. will be a friend and partner in that transition. indeed, shep. and officials here clearly recognize it will be difficult days ahead. there is definitely a sigh of relief that hosni mubarak is gone and there is peace on the streets. as for president obama, he paid tribute to the courage of the egyptian people. it was the moral force of nonviolence, not terrorism, not mindless killing, but nonviolence, moral force that bent the arc of history toward justice once more. the president is clearly hoping that egypt will serve as a stark contrast to some of the
team fox coverage. wendell goler live there now. are we expecting the president to claim success in iraq and afghanistan or what do we expect? well, shep, i think the president may point to his plans to bring u.s. troops home from iraq this year. as delivering on his promise to end the war there also, talk about beginning to reduce u.s. forces in afghanistan as the start of the end of that war. of course, there is much less progress to report and on the nuclear programs in iran and north korea. i don t think he has less progress to cheer about in iran and north korea. i think he has no progress to cheer about with iran and north korea. each country has larger nuclear stockpile than they did when he began in office. iran is well on their way to a bomb. north korea is well on its way to more bombs. still, both iran and north korea are facing increased pressure as a result of sanctions. the president warned were coming in his last state of the union
