The US Justice Department accuses Google of paying billions of dollars annually to device makers like Apple Inc , wireless companies like AT&T and browser makers like Mozilla to keep Google s search engine on top.
Apple had long argued that its cable was more secure than USB-C chargers, which are already deployed by Apple on other devices and widely used by rivals including the world s biggest smartphone maker Samsung.
Now the iPhone 15 is expected to have a USB-C charger, instead of Apple s usual Lightning charger, after the EU ordered manufacturers to adopt a common connection.
The companies include Adobe, IBM, Palantir, Nvidia and Salesforce. They joined Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection AI, Microsoft and OpenAI, which initiated an industry-led effort on safeguards in an announcement with the White House in July.
