Norwich University’s decision to return to full pre-COVID-19-pandemic operations means high enthusiasm on campus and probably abundant questions from soon-to-arrive students, including incoming first-year students and their families.

A new webpage, norwich.edu/arrival features information, tips and answers to dozens of frequently asked questions in 14 categories spanning arrival, orientation and student life. Information includes the arrival schedule, COVID-19 policies, a campus map and information on rook preparation, packing lists for all new students, student life, student services and meal plans. There are also resources for parents, including information about summer sendoffs, mentor family support and bill paying.

When a fire burned through a Northfield house last month, leaving several residents injured, Norwich students working as first responders put the service-before-self into immediate practice.
As Vermont Capitol Police Chief Matthew Romei ’98 recounted in a letter to Norwich President Dr. Mark Anarumo, Corps of Cadets Col. Michael Titus and Dean of Students, Martha Mathis, about 150 emergency responders from more than 30 agencies answered a call to a March 25 house fire off of Little Northfield Road in Northfield, Vermont. Romei said the fire response was complicated, involving many university alumni and five current students.

Norwich University’s community might have breathed a small sigh of relief as the workweek started Monday, the modified in-room quarantine gave way to the campus quarantine and athletics practice resumed for winter and spring teams.
President Mark C. Anarumo portended the changes Feb. 10 in an Update from the Hill, saying campus COVID-19 positive cases had dropped (they stood at 24 on Monday), thanks to student, faculty and staff vigilance and Facilities Operations’ scrubbing and sanitizing of campus buildings and locales.

Fast-evolving pandemic protocols have raised a plethora of student questions. Last week, university officials worked to answer them.
In a student town hall on Friday, President Mark Anarumo, Senior Vice President of Student Affairs and Technology Frank Vanecek, Corps of Cadets Commandant Col. Michael Titus and Amelia “Millie” Heidenreich, general manager of food contractor Sodexo at Norwich University, answered wide-ranging queries at a virtual town hall.
On Saturday, Titus and student Regimental Commander Caleb Miller posted a second video to explain recognition for rooks, first-year recruits for the Corps.
