you know, it s not so bad for me, but there were elderly and children on there. they had to cake care of their needs. what i don t understand is why, if you were coming in, why they still are holding you in terminal 1. are they giving you an explanation? i have to be honest, we haven t got a lot of explanations. nobody seems to know what s going on. certainly even the police here, or law enforcement people i talked to, they don t know what s going on. southwest airline that i rode, they threw up their hands and said this is the best we can do. everybody was nice, but we just sat. just waiting and waiting. five hours. did you check luggage? yeah. we don t know what that situation is and rental car. there are also people heading to the next flight, but they re still on the plane even.
see some disbelief. then all of a sudden you see the crowd coming. as we mentioned earlier, this is the first tsa officer to have killed in the line of duty before. you saw some of the officers there. there were 2,000 tsa agents alone in l.a.x., that doesn t even count the armed agents. the dhs, department of homeland security has its own armed officers, so really it s a measure of where we are today in terms of these threats. you have that sort of literal le thousands of officers in the airport to protect and respond. even now we just heard one passenger cease they re not letting the passengers who got to terminal 1 leave that area, because it s an active crime scene. they re probably taught to compartmentalize. it s interesting. we were talking to l.a. please describing the training they
move people. tell me what happened. how did you finally get off the plane? the pilot said we have good and bad news. good news is we finded landed. it could be up to several hours before we get off the plane because there were no terminals available to park at. what was the explain? well, the first was that there was just not enough people working and secondly, a bit later on said that the customs folks closed shop at 1:00 a.m. we landed just after 1:00 a.m. so we couldn t go to the normal gate where the customs terminal is because i guess they shut down for the day and then he ended up spending a good almost left the airport. now there s no baggage. no baggage? six and a half, seven hours out there and now it s it s like mob rule down here in terminal 1. there s no bags and people have been waiting for hours for it.
oh my gosh. when did you actually leave? how many hours ago did you leave mexico city? we left mexico city, supposed to leave at 4:10 and got in the air about 7:00 p.m. so long day. how many hours has it been? it s been oh gosh. i don t know. what time is it? lost track of time, i m sure. when the pilot told you it might be a little bit of time before you get off the plane, i m sure you didn t dream even hours. what went through your mind at that point? kept coming on saying a little longer, a little longer and said we had a fight with the airport people. can the police deliver food and water? i don t know what s going on. now there s a fight going on here in the terminal. i don t know. it s oh my gosh. it is not pretty. explain to me what it was like to be on the plane for that long. there was no additional food or water? well, you know, luckily they
with rachel crane live at jfk airport. the protests still very much going on behind you. we ve seen this crowd grow from a handful of people to what seems like hundreds and hundreds of people. here. protesting, calling for the release of the detainees that are being held here at jfk. also for president trump to reverse his controversial executive order. and it s very peaceful here and very spirited, poppy. we ve seen children, we ve seen puppies, families. one family smoke about saying how this is the best civics lesson they could ever give their child. bringing them here to this protest. we ve also recently learned that this is terminal 4 where the protest is being taking place, we know that 11 detainees are still being held here. we also have learned that a terminal 1, at least six people have been detained today.
