Wyoming s Nonprofits Moving Forward With Impacts From COVID-19

It focuses on homelessness and poverty, like running a food pantry and the city s only homeless shelter. Mikel Scott, the council s executive director, said for years, its building has been falling apart. The flooring of the shelter was so old that I honestly laid just a big thick piece of plywood down under the washing machine because the flooring was like bowing into the basement, she said. So back in late 2019, when the city gave them $250,000 to cover some upgrades, they were excited. But then the COVID-19 pandemic started hitting the community and the people they serve hard. The council went ahead and allocated $50,000 of that money to be used to keep people in their homes.

December 14, 2020 Choun Moody, age 49, of Leesville, was arrested by Agents with the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force. Agents charged Moody with one count of Possession of Cocaine and one count of Turn signals required. Bond was set at $15,635.00. Moody posted bond and was released. David Oneil, age 40, of Leesville, was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant. Bond was set at $3500.00. Oneil remains in the VPSO jail. Charlene Matthews, age 28, of Leesville, was arrested by Agents with the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force. Agents charged Matthews with one count of Turn signals required, one count of Operating a vehicle while license are suspended, one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, one count of Possession of Marijuana, and one count of Illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Bond was set at $12,592.00. Matthews posted bond and was released.
