ADRIAN A woman whom a prosecuting attorney called a “serial unlawful driver” will spend at least 30 months in prison for causing a crash that killed a Sand Creek man in 2019.
After hearing tearful descriptions Friday from Richard Allen Shaffer’s mother, sister, daughter and fiancee of how his death has affected them, Lenawee County Circuit Judge Anna Marie Anzalone sentenced Sonia Blanco to 30 months to 15 years in prison and ordered her to pay $5,060 in restitution and $258 in court costs. Ms. Blanco, you have a record consisting of tickets. I have not yet heard why those tickets and reinstatement fees weren’t paid so you would have had a valid license,” Anzalone said. “At the end of the day, we still have a loss of life of someone who was beloved by his family and the community that he was involved in.”
